Referrals are the cheapest lead source in insurance — no vendor cost, pre-built trust, and close rates that bought leads can’t touch. Spark makes them first-class: every contact can be linked to who referred them, the relationships show up everywhere you work, and on insurance workspaces Spark rolls up the commission each referrer has generated for you — so you know exactly which clients to thank, call, and ask again.

Linking a Referral

Any contact can be linked as referred by another contact using the referrer picker on the contact form.
1

Open the contact form

Create a new contact, or edit an existing one.
2

Pick the referrer

Use the referrer picker to search your existing contacts. If the referrer isn’t in your CRM yet, create them on the fly without leaving the form.
3

Save

The link shows up immediately — on both contacts’ profiles and in the dialer preview.
Free-text still works for non-contact referrers — a lead vendor, an event, or “saw the billboard” — when there’s no person to link.

Where Referrals Show Up

The dialer preview showing the referrer is the mid-call advantage: “Margaret mentioned you might be looking at coverage” lands very differently than a cold open.

Why Track Referrals

Every referral you don’t link is intelligence you lose:
  • You can’t thank who you can’t see — knowing Margaret has sent you three clients changes how you treat Margaret
  • You can’t ask the right people — your best referrers are the ones who’ve already referred, and the rollup surfaces them
  • You lose context on calls — knowing who sent the lead changes the first thirty seconds of the conversation

Referred Commission

On insurance workspaces, Spark rolls up referred commission for every contact: the sum of full and advance commission from all sales to contacts this person directly referred. It tells you, in dollars, what each referrer is worth to your book. How it works:
  • Attribution only — it’s a visibility number, not payout splitting. Nothing changes about how your own commission is calculated or logged.
  • One level deep — direct referrals only. If Margaret refers Dan, and Dan refers Sue, Sue’s sales count toward Dan’s rollup, not Margaret’s.

FAQs

Create them on the fly from the referrer picker — or use free text if the “referrer” isn’t a person (a vendor, an event, a sign).
No. It’s attribution and visibility only — a measure of what each referrer generates, not a payout split. What you do with that information (a thank-you call, a gift card) is up to you.
No — it’s one level deep. Only sales to contacts this person directly referred count toward their referred commission.
The Referrals tab on their contact profile lists everyone they referred. The overview shows a quick-view card with the top 5 and a View All link.
